Purpose of Job
The purpose of this job is to assist in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the plumbing and water distribution systems in unified government buildings. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing technical plumbing tasks, inspecting plumbing work, supervising inmate crews, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Job Related Requirements
WORK SCHEDULE – Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 4:00 pm
May be required to work on religious holidays.
Regular and predictable attendance is required.
Must work cooperatively with others.
When requirements include vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by ACC’s safe driving policy.
Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
Vocational or technical diploma in related discipline with one year of plumbing experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.
Six months of supervisory experience is preferred.Â
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Criminal background must indicate eligibility for the supervision of inmates.Â
Must obtain security training for the supervision of inmate workers as set forth by the Georgia Department of Corrections Standard Operating Procedures within six months of date of hire or first available opportunity.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities:
The following duties are normal for this job. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Supervises and recommends evaluations for assigned inmates, handling all inmate concerns, directing inmate work assignments, and recommending counseling and disciplining for inmates when necessary.
Trains, schedules, and supervises the inmate crew in the construction, maintenance, and repair of plumbing jobs.
Performs technical plumbing tasks: adapts and implements blueprints and specifications in accordance with plumbing codes, sketches plumbing layouts, determines materials required, orders supplies, installs fixtures and pipes, and repairs or replaces damaged pipes and fixtures.
Performs preventive maintenance work on existing plumbing fixtures.
Maintains related records and files reports pertaining to all activities performed which relate to plumbing.
Installs, tests and repairs backflow prevention devices.
Inspects plumbing to ensure code standards are met and maintains tools and equipment.
Maintains an adequate inventory of parts and supplies.
Responds to emergency service requests as a participant in division “on-call” program.
Performs other duties as required.
